Electric Car Charger Installation Made Simple by King Electric's Expert Electricians
If you have an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid—or you’re planning to invest in one—installing an EV charger in your home, garage, or on your property can be a huge timesaver.
There are many important questions to consider when installing an electric vehicle charger at home. To start, your main electrical service and panel needs to be able to handle the power demands of an EV. lt is also essential to ensure that your vehicle is protected from damaging power surges. Conversely, you need to protect your home from issues with your electric vehicle—by purchasing a charger that can detect voltage leaks, overheating, and other potential hazards is key.
Call King Electric to have your electrical system evaluated by one of our experts and learn more about the charger installation process. We know what to look for, and we understand the complex requirements for electrical vehicles.
What to Expect: Car Charger Installation
There are two main types of EV chargers: Level 1 chargers, which are often included with the purchase of an EV, use a standard 120-volt outlet. These can take more than 20 hours to charge your vehicle. Level 2 chargers, on the other hand, use a 240-volt power source and can take just a couple of hours to fully charge an EV.
In most cases, King Electric recommends installing a level 2 charger with a dedicated circuit. These chargers offer more flexibility and long-term cost savings. However, before making any specific product recommendations, a King Electric representative will assess your specific needs and conduct a complete assessment of your home’s electrical system.
